Welcome to Dreamweavers
“Home Page.” Here you will be able to follow Dreamweaver’s
progress and the adventures of Ken & Dottie Saville as we take our
radical sabbatical from the world as we have known it for 50+ years
and travel around on our boat for an extended period of time. What does
“extended” mean you ask?? Hopefully 2 – 5 years.
The “Dream”
began one dark evening in November 1998 when Ken, with flashlight in
hand, convinced his bride to crawl under a fence at an old boatyard
in Long Beach to “just look” at a 40 foot 1976 fishing boat
“bare hull” that he could build and turn into an ocean going
trawler …. Foolishly, Dottie said “OK, if you promise that
it won’t sit in our yard forever”…..”What Were
We Thinkin??”..... the rest is history. We chose a trawler cuz
we figured we would be too old to hoist the sails by the time she was
ready to launch.
After several
years of week-end building, we were getting anxious to get “out
there” and, some think foolishly (including us,) quit our jobs
as a plumbing contractor and a water department manager, and began working
on her full time. Again… “What Were We Thinkin’??”
“Dreamweaver”
was born on a mountaintop, at 8,500 feet elevation, and built on her
owner’s, Ken & Dottie Saville’s 40 acre ranch in Big
Bear Lake, CA. She was quite a site out in the middle of the forest.
Neighbors referred her as “Noah’s Ark” as the property
next door is home to twenty “Lions and Tigers and Bears”
who are movie stars. Dreamweaver has weathered many a snow storms, blistering
heat and the fires of 2004, so we know she will do well with what Neptune
has to throw at her.
We plan to use
the Baja Ha-Ha Rally as a kick-off to our 2 to 5 year “Radical
Sabbatical” and are looking forward to meeting fellow cruisers,
learning a lot, and having a hell-of-a good time. Although we continue
to say, “What Were We Thinkin’??” trading 40 acres
for 40 feet, and now know that anyone who builds a boat is certifiably
crazy. We are thrilled to be following our dreams and beginning our
adventure! We hope our family and friends will have fun following our
adventures as we look forward to hearing from you all often!
Cheers……..
